Geoffry Hazelton Bean
Born: December 9, 1880 in Forest City, Maine
Died: January 1964
Buried:

Geoffry Hazelton Bean and his family came to Island Falls when Goff, as he was known, was 13 years old. He registered for the draft in September of 1918 at the age of 37 but there is no record of him having served. He married Rose Downs and had no children.
Goff was a barber. He attended school in Boston returning to Island Falls to barber with established businesses here in town. In 1906 he opened his own shop, and for 62 consecutive years he shaved beards and cut hair for the men in Island Falls. His patrons included Governor Milliken and our well-known guide and outdoorsman, Bill Sewall. Having his shop to the side of the Pettengill store captured the traffic there as well as those coming in on the train seeking to look their best before business meetings or sales pitches to local merchants. He became well known for being readily available for a quick tonsorial spruce-up for local males.
At his retirement at age 80 he was asked about his hobbies he replied, “My shop and my work.” He was a Mason for many years and enjoyed an occasional vacation away, but nearly all his time was spent here in Island Falls. Having no children, he enjoyed nieces and family and jaunts to Pleasant Lake.
Goff passed at the age of 83.
